Eric Ewazen's Sonata for Trombone was written in 1998. The first movement is in sonata-allegro form, the second a pavane, and the third is a bravura rondo.

This work is recorded on CD - New York Legends: Recitals with principals from the New York Philharmonic, Cala Records, with Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic.

Eric Ewazen was born in 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio.  He studied composition with Samuel Adler, Milton Babbitt, Warren Benson, Gunther Schuller and Joseph Schwantner at the Eastman School of Music, Tanglewood and The Juilliard School.  He has been a member of the faculty at Juilliard since 1980.
