Item Details

For bass trombone. These are etudes based on a bunch of the excerpts that we all know and love.

A wonderful collection of 11 imaginative and challenging etudes for Bass Trombone by Karl Hinterbichler, one of America's leading educators and performers. These etudes concentrate on perfecting technique, style, rhythm and tempo. Professor Hinterbichler's Etudes concentrate on eleven of the most requested Bass Trombone orchestral excerpts. These etudes are for advanced performers. According to the composer, they are even more difficult than the actual excerpts themselves, so the real thing should seem simpler by comparison.

They tend to be longer than the excerpts and help one to practice the difficulties of the excerpt. As an example Show and Tell is based on William Tell and has 8th note runs in it to make you tongue more than the excerpt.

Drill Ride is based on The Ride, and approaches the rhythmic part of the ride to assist in preparation for playing the rhythms correctly.

Others include Haydn Creation, Heldenleben, Hungarian March, Rheingold, La Gazza Ladra, Hary Janos, and several more.

Karl Hinterbichler is recognized as one of the leading low brass pedagogues in the nation. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of North Texas. Additional studies were with Edward Kleinhammer retired bass trombonist of the Chicago Symphony, Dennis Smith, former principal trombonist of the Detroit Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, at the Darmstadt Summer Institute for New Music in Germany and the Arnold Jacobs Master class at Northwestern University.
