Gronitz PCM 4/4 Piston CC Tuba
The Gronitz is built in Bavaria Germany by Andreas Klingspor, the next generation of brass instrument builders. The PCM means 'Piston CC Medium', and is a 4/4 size, four piston, one rotary valve tuba, available in silver plate, lacquer, or raw brass. At times this has been one of the most sought after tubas. They are made from very lightweight sheet brass with a wide bell flare. The tone is warm and velvety, and it can sound like a much bigger instrument, though maybe with not the extreme volumes available of a 6/4 tuba. This standard size is a lot easier to handle though. Similar models from other makers would be the Hirsbrunner 290, the weightier Meinl Weston 2145, and the Adams CC. This tuba is well rounded and excels in most every situation, orchestral or chamber music, recording studio or orchestra pit. The tuba is handmade in with beautiful craftsmanship. For 2018 Gronitz piston tubas will incliude Martin Wilk MAW valves made by Meinlschmidt. This beautiful instrument has a liveliness you don't easily find from larger makers. This tuba is sold without case, but we can adjust the SKB390W hard case for a snug fit, or order a hard case or top loading gig bag from Gronitz.
February 2018: We have one PCM in stock in silver plate at a special price. This one was the showroom display model at the previous Gronitz factory in Hamburg. This one was made by Dietrich Klienehorst, now retired, the former master instrument maker of Gronitz. This PCM in new condition, but has a few marks from handling.
Included: the tuba is sold without accompaniment
