Glenn Cronkhite is the master case maker. His line of
lightweight cases is hand made in Berkeley, California.
Glenn's cases used to comprise very nearly the entirety of
the Reunion Blues brand that were made in San Francisco.
With the Reunion Blues US factory closed, Glenn is again

These cases are the finest you can buy for your tuba. I trust my
Hirsbrunner HB2 and my Kanstul tubas only to one of these. These aren't cheap, but
neither is a tuba, and these give the best protection for a
lightweight case. And they cost hardly any more money than the tuba
cases from Reunion Blues of China. New Cronkhite style tuba cases
have the zipper going most of the way around the case and all the way
over the bell so the case can open flat like a suitcase. Includes
removable orchestra folder pocket, and small zipper pocket. Double
shoulder straps have shoulder pads built onto them. Hardware is gold
plated steel. Cordura cases are heavy cloth with leather trim and the
firmest foam padding. Leather cases are heavier and rather pricey,
but make for a stiffer case, as the leather is thick, like that used
on boots and saddles. One client liked the leather so he wouldn't
have to show up to the community band rehearsal with cat hair stuck
to his case. Good idea.
A tip: Though these cases are light, tubas are heavy. When
carrying a tuba on my back, I often seem to have a bass trombone and
a mute bag with me too. It's too much. So I went to REI and got a
waist belt from a mountaineering backpack called the Wonderland. The
belt was about $30. I attached it to the bottom connection of the
shoulder straps on my Cronkhite case, and now much of the weight of
the tuba is carried on my hips rather than on my shoulders. It's much
more comfortable, let me tell you.

Pick any two colors in the fabric you desire for a
really striking case. Don't be afraid of color. I can tire of selling
all black cases. One player just ordered a green tuba case with black
trim - it's spectacular.
