The tenor voice of the tuba family is used in
wind bands, brass bands, and the symphony orchestra on occasion. |

| BBb Contrabass Tubas
 |
These are the largest tubas, and are the most
common for students in the US. If you like playing in
bands and are not looking for a solo instrument, or if you seek
your first tuba, this is a good place to start. |
$4000-16000 |
| CC Contrabass Tubas
 |
These are used by professionals and orchestra
players in the US, and are a bit more nimble than most BBb
tubas, being several feet shorter. If you're going to
study tuba in college in a conservatory atmosphere, consider one
of these. |
$4000-13300 |
| Eb Bass Tubas
 |
These solo tubas are gaining popularity as more
professional models become available. More nimble than the
contrabass tubas, and with a better low range than the F tubas,
these may be the do-all instrument for the virtuoso who wants to
own only one instrument. This is also the standard
orchestral tuba in the UK, and is popular in brass bands both in
the UK and the US. Brass band music in treble clef is most
easily played on an Eb tuba. |
$6500-7700 |
| F Bass Tubas
 |
This is the solo orchestra tuba in the US and
Germany. Small and nimble, they are light to carry and
have a high range that soars. Use it for lighter
orchestral works, chamber music, recitals. |
