S.E. Shires Medium Bore Tenor Trombone

This is one of the top custom horns of this medium bore size in the world. It is handmade in Boston. Several parts of this horn are interchangeable with the Shires large bore symphonic tenor trombone. The difference here is the smaller .525" slide and 8" bell. The tuning slide and valve section are the same for both instruments. Look to the large tenor page for more options and info on Shires trombones. Shires FAQ

Shires Parts

Valves

Rotary
Oversize rotary valve has full .562" bore all the way through, gently rounded ports, short throw, fast response. $1560
Axial Flow
Made in-house at Shires to the highest tolerances, these feature nickel plated brass rotor, very even feel between Bb and F. Due to the wider width of an axial flow valve, most players should order a wide slide for jaw clearance, the TW25. $1560
Tru-Bore

New patented rotary valve has a completely straight air path on the Bb side, and it gently redirects the air out the back on the F side. Very short throw. Due to the wider width of a Tru-Bore valve, most players should order a wide slide for jaw clearance, the TW25. $1740
No-Valve Neckpipe
For the purist, just get a straight neckpipe and a counter weight for balance. You can still convert to an F attachment later simply by pulling off the tuning slide and unscrewing two mounting screws. A convertible horn like this is a very versatile instrument. $360
Counterweight
Fits all Shires tuning slides, lacquered brass with tool-free removal, similar to old King style weight, custom engraving available $80
