The Conn 8H and 88H would usually be listed only in the large bore
symphonic tenor trombone section. But now several slide options are
available. In addition to the standard 88H .547" large bore slide, you can
buy it with a .525" medium bore slide, or a .525"/.547" dual bore slide.. These have
medium width nickel end crooks, and may be easier for players with
small hands to hold. An interesting feature of these slide options
are the three interchangeable lead pipes. Two are for a small shank mouthpiece, but one accepts a large shank tenor or bass trombone
style mouthpiece. Bell and valve options are the same as large bore
88H trombones. Includes case and
mouthpiece.
Don't feel shy using a smaller slide on your 88H. It works well, and Ralph Sauer,
former principle trombonist of the LA Phil, does just that much of the time
with two different 88H slides. Also available as the 8H with no
valve and straight neck pipe. Includes slide tune up.
