This new product
from Yamaha is made to compete with Slide-O-Mix Rapid Comfort, and
Reka Superslide. It's a thick, milky combination of silicone
and soap, in a single 30ml bottle. Wipe off your slide,
dribble some of this on, and you may spray with water if it seems
too thick, but some players might use this product alone. Use
very sparingly, and you'll have a smooth as glass slide. |

This thin liquid
slide lubricant is made in the US, and seems to be the same as the
lubricant included with Getzen trombones. It's an all-in-one
product, and is more watery than similar products from other makers.

Heyday's Slide (formerly Lotos
Nano) |
Here is something totally different for your trombone slide.
This is a nano-sealant, a microscopic coating that adheres to the metal
and smoothes its surface. Originally designed to improve water runoff
from the inside of bassoon bocals, this has found favor as a sealant for
trombone slide tubes. Simply clean your slide tubes, spray or swab the
solution onto the outside of the inner tubes, and also onto the inside of
the outer tubes, and then let it dry for a few minutes. The alcohol
suspending the sealant will evaporate, leaving your slide tubes with a
smoother surface. The surface is now so smooth, you need only
lubricate with water, though sometimes a drop or two of liquid lubricant
like Reka on the stockings will give the best action. The first horn
on which we tried Lotos Nano was a student model trombone, and everyone was
truly floored by the improvement. Then it was applied to all of the
Kanstul display trombones at the NAMM show in January 2006. A frequent
comment during the show was, "What did you do to these slides?"
Now we apply this to any new horn for sale here whose slide makes a bit of
noise even after a tune up. This quiets it right down. This
stuff is pricey, but one treatment may last a few weeks, and a bottle may
last you a year. Would you pay $30 per year for outstanding slide
action? Yes, we thought you would. |
