New from Zig Kanstul, Los Angeles area custom horn
builder, is a large bore symphonic tenor trombone that deserves some
serious attention. Based on the classic New York style bell taper,
this model 1570T is a well built alternative for players who like
Bach 42 style trombones. This horn has a wide, standard weight .547"
brass slide with a large brass end crook, and an 8.5" bell in yellow
brass or lightweight bronze. The valve is the Ed Thayer axial flow
valve, with a machined anodized aluminum rotor. Ed appears to have
closed up shop at the moment, so this valve is limited to stock on
hand while Kanstul chooses another source for axial style valves. The
new trigger paddle will be different than the photo above in that it
has a rounded metal thumb paddle with adjustable positioning. Also
brand new are three removable lead pipes based on some classic
styles: NY Bach 42, Minick Legit, and Minick Open Legit. Thanks go to
Phil Keen and Noah Gladstone for their help in assembling this
combination of fine vintage style lead pipes. These pipes use Shires
style threading, so you can mix and match between brands. The pipes
are also available separately with or without threads at $75 each,
for installation in your own horn. Horn includes Getzen style hard
case. Other custom options (call for a quote) include bronze tuning
slide or F attachment tubing, lightweight slide (pictured), removable
bell, or silver plate ($200). Slides are available separately for
$750. The assembly on this horn is just perfect, as is the slide
action and lacquer finish. Call for best price (in the range of a

This horn is also available as the
1570CR with the new super light oversize
CR rotary valve. Its hollow rotor
construction allows full .562" bore through the valve, a resonant
sound, and very fast action with no maintenance and no ergonomic
compromises. It's the perfect modern update to the classic rotary
valve.
This horn ships in 1-2 days if in stock, 4-6 weeks otherwise.
