  New Kanstul 1662 Bass Trombone

Features:

  • .562" bore bronze slide with in-the-slide tuning adjustment
  • stacked Kanstul CR valves with tuning in F & D
  • 9.5" bell with Elkhart Conn taper
  • ball & socket linkages, adjustable thumb & finger paddles
  • 3 interchangeable vintage lead pipes, Shires compatible threads
  • $3400 without case

Options:

  • soldered or unsoldered bell rim
  • bronze, brass, or nickel outer slide tubes
  • rose brass, bronze or brass bell and bell crook
  • narrow Conn style or wide Bach width slide
  • 22 or 24 gauge bells

The slide tuning mechanism and nickel oversleeves are very light, adding only 6 grams of weight compared to a fine Shires slide.

Both thumb and finger paddle are adjustable, delrin linkages are easily replaced, lead pipes use Shires style threads, slide coupling is Conn compatible.

Front view of bell section. This is a picture of the prototype. Production models will have two changes from this picture. The thumb paddle mechanism will be on the right side of the thumb, not the left as pictured. Also, the two tubes coming out of the top side of the second valve will be moved higher to avoid intrusion into the player's neck area.

Kanstul CR Valve rotor

The new Kanstul CR valve is worth mentioning. The rotor is made of two CNC machined rotor halves and two pieces of brass tubing for the airways. This rotor is the lightest around, and is a constant .593" bore thoughout. Venting prevents popping.
