Double & Triple Horns

The double horn arose in the late 19th century to improve on the limited agility of the single F horn.  A change valve and two sets of slides allows the player to choose from two "sides" of the instrument, pitched either in Bb or F.  This is the standard type of horn in use today.  A triple horn adds a second change valve and a high pitched third side of the instrument, usually in alto Eb or F.
